For a very long time now, when it comes to representations in popular culture, “hip-hop” has been synonymous with “rap music.” Whether it’s documentaries, books, awards shows, television appearances – whatever it is, rap is there and the other aspects of the culture are, with a few notable exceptions, hardly around at all.
